Music Project (Ext.)

I mentioned a while ago about a song i was producing, well its got some feedback! It was played on a local radio station in North London, with the specific goal to finding a lyricist to put some vocals on it. Success! A few people called me up, but one MC was very professional and his ability was far superior to anything i think ive ever seen! Work will start over Christmas, firstly with the layering of the track and formation of the song itself.

Also, there may be a chance to make a music video for it, obviously depending on the time i have spare and if i can get back to london at ay point.

Personal Research Project

Ok, so i handed it in, but it got VERY, VERY difficult towards the end. If i were a student of medicine it may have been more straightforward, but, alas, i am not. By the end of it i just had long, seemingly meaningless words floating around in my head. Maybe i bit off more that i could chew, but i think the second part of the PRP will be alot more enjoyable, and hopefully, slightly more simple.

Client Project-Holgate School

Today, me and G went to Hucknall in the freezing cold to meet Sarah Williams, and to see the school and its facilities. Shes a lovely woman, and she also watches Soccer AM, so made the connection to 'Rocket' as soon as i walked through the door! We sat down and discussed the projects the school was planning for the next few months, and will be going back for a large staff meeting in January to discuss it in more detail.

Client Project- Holgate School

This, the actual client project, will be a documentary regarding Holgate school in Hucknall. Im going to be working with Georgia Messham, a friend on my course whom ive worked with numerous times in the last few years.

I have a massively high expectation for this project, we have the chance to follow the progress of the schools new diversity and inclusion strategy, and its implications on Hucknall as a mining town.

The school also has a department for digital media, in which pupils do a similar course to that of NTU's Multimedia. It is our hope that we can use some of the pupils in this subject to get on board with our project, in order to give them some actual experience in working with a crew for a production.

Meetings have been set up with Sarah Williams, head of Diversity at Holgate School.

Personal Research Project

I finally have sorted out my PRP title, but the reading is KILLING me. I have read about 4 medicine realted books, countless journals and A LOT of information regarding physchophysiology, psychology, biomechanics and biofeedback and testing...phew! Its a lot of work to get through, but some of it is actually quite interesting...even though some is certainly not.

Client Project-"Pest Supress"

Filming this week went really well, i managed to find a location which DIDNT look like a student pit, so straight away it looks alot more professional. Shooting didnt take long, i only needed about 15 minutes of total raw footage to produce the 30-second advert. I am in the process of editing now, once done all i need to do is record the audio for dubbing later.

Client Project- Simulated Brief

Here is the logo for the "Pest Supress" client project. Its quite simple, but less is more. Or so i am told. The logo will have to go on some form of packaging in the advert, but wont be seen for long, as long as it shows what the product is.

Music Project (Ext.)

Its something like 5 years since i started making 'choons', and it seem like finally things are being pieced together. I now use Reason, Logic, Pro Tools and FL Studio, and am trying to teach myself Ableton. I made a beat in the (very) early hours of this morning, which seems to have taken shape pretty quickly...usually i can never finish a song 'cos i keep coming back to it and changing it or transforming the genre. Its called "fight or flight", its a dark, hip-hop oriented sorta beat, and i plan to send it out to a couple of MC's in London, if not only for some feedback.

Client Project- Holgate School

JUst some background info on Hucknall..

Hucknall, or Hucknall Torkard as it was once called, has roots dating back over 900 years. Once a country village, that developed into a small town, it achieved considerable prosperity when, during the eighteenth century, the trade of Framework knitting blossomed.

A national depression within the industry affected the town during the first six decades of the 19th century. A short lived glove industry (circa 1840-65) helped to keep the town’s economy afloat. Then another small industry prospered; that of the manufacturing copies of Russian Orenburg shawls. A shawl measuring 1.5 square yards, containing up to 1,400,000 loops and be fine enough to be pulled through a ladies ring.

The textile industry, within the town, survived the depression and modernised its processes in line with the rest of the country. For over another hundred years it remained a strong industry within Hucknall, although a new industry was needed to provide jobs for some displaced workers.

Then, during the 1860s, the coal mining industry set foot in the town; bringing with it massive employment opportunities. Rows of new houses were constructed and within the 30 years following 1861 the population grew over four fold. Consequently not only providing work for the struggling textile workers but bringing prosperity to the whole town.

Personal Research Project

SO today i started looking into research for my PRP. I have decided i want to look at the implications and effects of audio in film. Not theoretically, more physiologically. So maybe to do with the physical response of the audience under audio stimulus. The literary survey may pose a challenge, simply because i will have to look at biofeedback and psychophysiology- joy.

Simulated Client Project

Today i went in for a seminar sesh with Jools, each of us had to bring 3-4 ideas with a view to have chosen one by the end. All we did was hear everyones ideas, and if we didnt like the idea...we got to throw balls at them. I didnt dislike any of Olli's ideas, i just felt like throwing stuff at him. Anyhow, I now have an idea which i think will be a good production.

Basically...

A woman enters her house, bags of shopping in both hands. She sets aside her bags then opens one, removing an insect repellent. She goes about her business, unpacking shopping.

She stop suddenly, looking all around her, as the sound of tiny, high-pitched coughs surround her.

High pitched final-breaths are audible. The woman goes about her business.

3 second packet shot with voiceover.

I am thinking something along the lines of "Pest Suppress" or "Pest Arrest" for a product name. I will start writing a script and a storyboard this week.

Client Project- Simulated Brief

I have started doing some pre-production docs for the Simulated Client project. I have done a full script and most of a storyboard, and also a logo for the product packaging-made with Macromedia Flash. At the moment i havent got the logo 'cos im on a library pc, but it will go up shortly.

Simulated Client Project

We have been given a brief for part of the Client Project module, it requires me to produce a 30-second advertisement for a bug spray or insect repellent. I have a few ideas lined up, but until i meet with Jools later in the week i wont confirm anything yet.

2nd Year Group Project

This is the video i directed last year for the group project. Thought it should be on here, just for reference sake.

So here we are, back in Nottingham after a very wet summer, straight into the thick of it. I spent most of the holidays making music, a few tracks are in use with a few producers in London, but with their own time constraints and my own, I am unsure of how the production will develop over the first term. However, there is plenty to keep me busy what with the PRP (Personal Research Project) looming. I am unsure at the moment what I want to do, although I think I want to focus on audio within film, or film for audio…something along those lines.

30 April 2007

Today Twig and I booked out the audio studio, just as a little bit of practise using MIDI and recording a bit of drums. Neither of us could play the drums, and no amount of tweakage in ProTools was going to help us out, so we stuck to playing with the MIDI keyboard. Some of the sounds that come out Absynth and Poizone are awesome, some that almost knocked me off my chair. It was a decent session simply because we had a chance to practice setting up the mics and keyboard sends, which i felt a little hazy about beforehand.
